Description

Thyme Essential Oil, or Thymus vulgaris oil has two excellent qualities: its powerful general stimulating action and its noteworthy bactericide capacity. It regenerates the body’s energy, providing vitality and courage.

Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a plant native to Mediterranean Europe widely cultivated as a culinary herb, although it has also been used as a medicinal plant for hundreds of years. It is one of the first medicinal plants used in Western phytotherapy, used in respiratory conditions, digestive problems and prevention and treatment of infections.

In ancient times, thyme forests were considered sacred. Its perfume was considered the breath of Zeus and entered the combination of the so-called "bouquet of the gods". This bouquet had to be collected at dawn, when the plants were still bathed in dew, and was made up of rosemary, mint and thyme, to which a sprig of hyssop was added at night. All this was tied with three braided grass threads. It was believed that hanging this bouquet in a room would bring happiness and health.

The essential oil is obtained by water or steam distillation from fresh or partially dried leaves and flower buds. Thyme essential oil blends very well with eucalyptus, tea tree, lemon, lavender, and pine essential oils.

At the cosmetic level, it is a powerful antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial. It is used in the manufacture of soaps. It has protective properties for skin and hair from oxidative processes, and also has purifying activity.
